Holly Martelle, Ph D - Principal Archaeologist - Heritage Planner

Holly Martelle earned a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 2002 based on her research on Iroquoian populations in southern Ontario. In addition to 16 years of experience in the road building and aggregate industries, Dr. Martelle has worked as a Heritage Planner at the now Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport and has taught at several universities throughout the province.

Holly has directed numerous archaeological assessments for subdivision developments, road improvements, provincial properties, sewer installations, and aggregate pits. She is an advisor to local developers and First Nations on archaeology and burial issues and has assisted in the development of an archaeology course curriculum for a local school board. Since 2004 Holly has managed retainers for Infrastructure Ontario, the Ministry of Transportation, City of Hamilton and Hydro One.

Holly is a Past-President of the Ontario Archaeological Society, former Newsletter Editor for the Canadian Archaeological Association and is a member of both the Society for American Archaeology and Ontario Association for Impact Assessment.
