Johnathan Freeman, MA - Field Operations Manager & Staff Archaeologist

Johnathan earned a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology from the University of Western Ontario in 2004 and completed his Master’s Degree in Applied Archaeology at Western in 2019.  His masters research considers community development and change through time in a complex, multiple occupation Late Woodland ancestral Attawandaron village in Middlesex County that was excavated by TMHC, partly under his supervision.

Johnathan is the longest serving TMHC staff member, having joined the company in 2004 shortly after its founding. In his time with the firm, he has acted as Field Technician, Field Supervisor and Equipment Manager and assumed the role of Field Operations Manager and Staff Archaeologist in 2017. Johnathan is a seasoned field archaeologist and has both participated in and supervised major projects in southern and northern Ontario, including the archaeological re-assessment of Kanenhstaton, the Haudenosaunee reclamation property in Caledonia, the excavation of the Dorchester Iroquoian village, Dresden cemetery relocation and survey of the Bruce to Milton hydro transmission corridor and Enbridge Line 10 pipeline. Throughout his career, Johnathan has worked regularly with First Nations communities throughout Ontario and has established good working relationships with Indigenous field representatives through the encouragement of open, respectful communication.
